How I Maintain My Brows

Cardigan (only $8! I sized up to a medium) // Eyebrow Powder // Brush // Brow Gel // Brow Wand

 Monogrammed Towels // iPhone Pocket

Hey y’all! This post has been long requested, but I finally got it shot! Although I may not have perfect brows, if I skip filling them in I notice it all day long. I truly feel like they are key to a fresh face.

The first step to brow maintenance is getting them done. I definitely prefer threading over waxing; they are able to take my shapeless brows and make them arched! How.. I don’t know. But it’s a miracle. If you’re from central Connecticut I highly recommend GBS Salon in Market Square! I usually get them threaded every few months or so (shamefull, I know). I let them grow out for so long so they can get them as arched as possible when I get them done! In between I pluck the strays.

As you can see, I only use four items when doing my daily brow routine. I first use this “brow wand” to brush my brows into shape. I then apply this brow powder (in the shade “Blonde”) using an angled brush. One of my biggest pet peeves is when longer brow hairs shift and don’t stay in line, so I lightly apply this gel to help them keep their shape all day long! It does get a bit discolored from my foundation over time, so that’s why it’s not crystal clear in my photos!

Simple, right?! I have used the Anastasia Brow Powder for years and will probably never stay from it! It does the job of filling in my brows without looking super obvious or harsh. The brow gel is also my favorite little gem, let me know if any of you give it a try!

Gold Guide: My Must-Have Lipstick Picks

T u e s d a y ,  D e c e m b e r  1 2 t h ,  2 0 1 7

A lipstick guide has been requested  post by a bunch of readers, which means that I am so glad to share it with you all today! As much as She’s Glitter and Gold is currently a much-loved hobby for me, I always want to produce posts that you want to read. It truly is so much more fulfilling to put something together knowing that it will be helpful to others, which is why I’m so excited about this post! Let’s get started, shall we?

Although I am not a makeup guru by ANY stretch of the imagination, I do love my lipsticks. Day-to-day, my makeup routine is essentially the same, and I am not one to play around with new products frequently. When purchasing a product to add to my arsenal, I always do my research before finally investing in it. However, one item that I do change on a daily basis is my lipstick! This is not to say that I wear lipstick every day – every girls’ lips need a break. I just love to play around with different shades; lipstick has the power to change an entire outfit, and I’m on board with makeup that has that kind of power. I have tried so many brands, shades, and finishes, but have a handful that are tried and true. I wasn’t sure what the best way to break up this post was, but finally went with dividing each section by general hue. Scroll through by shade to see all my favs!

First up we have my two favorite berry-toned shades! Out of all today’s picks, this is probably the genre that I wear the least; however when I do wear it these are the only two lipsticks I use!

1) Model Co Lipstick in “Peony”

2) Colourpop in “More Better”

Pictured above is Model Co’s Peony!

Next up, we have nudes! These are honestly the hardest category to make recommendations on. It really varies by skin tone, as even some of the shades shown above can wash me out if I haven’t recently fake-tanned. Perla is a darker nude, Kitty is a pigmented nude, and Midi and Blankety are completely nude (at least for my skin tone, it depends!).

1) Stila Liquid Lipstick in “Perla”

2) Colourpop in “Midi”

3) MAC Lipstick in “Blankety”

4) Model Co Lipstick in “Kitty”

Pictured above is Stila “Perla”..

Also wearing “Perla” in the post above!

Pictured above is Model Co in “Kitty”.

You know how once you find the perfect red lip you don’t really let go? Nope, just me? Well.. that’s awkward. Anywho, that’s how I feel about these two red lipsticks! Literally my absolute holy grails. I don’t think I can describe the first one better than Sephora does; it really is a true red!

1) Stila Liquid Lipstick in “Beso”

2) LAQA & CO. Pencil in “Ring of Fire”

Pictured above is Stila in “Beso”.

Again, pictured above is Stila in “Beso”.

So I know most lipstick lovers would split their pinks up between bright and mellow, but out of my plethora of pink lipsticks (no girl needs this many shades of pink) these are the ones I reach for time and time again! The brightest one on the far left is Stila’s “Bella”, and is literally the perfect BRIGHT pink hue! The others decrease and become less pink, ending with Benefit’s “Lollibalm”, which is the perfect everyday lip color!

1) Stila Liquid Lipstick in “Bella”

2) Urban Decay Lipstick in “Double Team”

3) MAC Lipstick in “Snob”

4) Benefit’s “Lollibalm”

Pictured above is Benefit’s “Lollibalm”.

In this blog post is Stila in “Bella”.

Pictured above is MAC’s “Snob”.

PRO TIP: The best way to figure out which lipsticks will work best on you is to TRY THEM ON. I know, I know, three dreaded little words. However, Sephora, MAC, and Nordstrom all have a huge selection of lipsticks in store. What I tend to do is have a few shades in mind that I want to try. Whenever find myself at the mall (which is more often then I should openly admit), I will stop in one of these stores and swatch the shades on my hand.  I then will try my favorite on and wear it for the rest of the day. This gives you time to see the color on you for the rest of the day in varied lighting. If you love it by the end of the day, then it’s the shade for you! If not, then at least you tried and didn’t waste the money on it.

I hope this post was as informative and helpful as possible! Keep the requests rolling in ladies 🙂 .

My Current Skincare Lineup

Pictured: Hydrating Day and Night Cream // Illuminating Serum  // Clarisonic Mia 2 // Scalloped Bag

Before I jump right in to today’s post, I wanted to give you guys a bit of background on my skin! Back in middle school my skin was a little rocky; I had acne, but saw a dermatologist who prescribed me a topical cream and put me on a pill to get rid of it (I really wish I could remember what the name of the pill of the topical cream was, but honestly I was so young I can’t recall!). I was super regimented with my skin during those years, but once I started high school I didn’t have a set routine. I’d go to sleep with makeup more frequently than I care to admit, skip using moisturizer, etc. A

Although I had fairly good skin in high school (I was an early bloomer and SO grateful for having that phase out of the way), I am, unfortunately, a picker. Like, if there is so much as a small zit brewing, I am on it, digging and destroying my skin until I am guaranteed to have a scab. I still scrutinize my face and can’t leave a blemish in peace, but one thing that has changed is having a steady skincare routine! This really didn’t come about until halfway through college, when I first heard about Tula. After reading about how Tula utilizes probiotics to help balance your skin, I knew I wanted to give it a try. I ordered the Day and Night Cream and Purifying Cleanser. I will be honest, at first I noticed a huge difference, my skin was bright, even and glowing! But after a short while, I fell out of the routine, as I didn’t think it was giving me the same results as I initially experienced. My skin was dry in my t-zone and neutral elsewhere, with some red areas that I wanted to even out. Without Tula, I noticed these symptoms arising again, so I tried it out again and FINALLY stuck with it.

I have now been using Tula for three years and will never go back. I still like to try new skin products, but will never stray from Tula’s Cleanser and Day and Night Cream. Without further ado, here’s my current skincare routine!

1) First I wash my face with my Clarisonic and Tula’s Cleanser. I seriously do not know what I would do without this cleanser, it works wonder sand I really do notice a difference in my skin’s texture after use!

2) Once out of the shower, I pat my face dry and make sure all of my makeup is removed. I then apply Tula’s illuminating serum or deep wrinkle defense serum. Normally I just alternate between the two at random!

3) This step is new to me! I recently got a sample size of a new Tula product in the mail. Since the air is getting cooler and my skin is becoming more dry, I’ve been moisturizing with the Kefir Pressed Serum at night.

4) The next morning I then use the Tula Hydrating Cream. I usually put it on about ten minutes before I do my makeup, just so it has time to set in before I start layering my skin with other products!

5) There are two additional things I do weekly. On Sunday nights, I use my PMD to thoroughly exfoliate my skin. Getting rid of that “dead” layer helps Tula‘s products to really penetrate and work wonders on your skin! The second thing I do almost weekly is a facial mask. I alternate between this one, this one, and this one.

My readers can use code “ALEXA15VIP” for 15% off any Tula order! I do want to note that this post is sponsored; however I have invested my own money into many of these products myself, and really stand behind this amazing company!

Whitening Sensitive Teeth at Home + A Giveaway

W e d n e s d a y ,  N o v e m b e r  1 s t ,  2 0 1 7

Today I wanted to talk about something different with you guys… teeth whitening! Growing up, anything related to teeth was top priority in my family. My mom is an orthodontic assistant, so it was always prudent that we brush, floss, and maintain our teeth. I had braces by 4th grade guys — if that helps to relay how imbedded dental care is. Albite, my teeth aren’t as straight as they could be; my mom still insists that I get braces just one more time. However, I wore my retainer religiously post-braces, so I think that even if I got braces again my teeth would just go back to how they are now. Although I don’t seem to have control over how straight my teeth are, I do have control when it comes to whitening them! So when I was contacted by Smile Brilliant, I was super excited to give it a whirl! First off, I wanted to show you guys my results after only 7 sessions…

Crazy, right?! I have a close up before and after further down this post, but I wanted to explain the Smile Brilliant process in more detail.

First up, you will receive a box with your whole setup! It will contain whitening geldesensitizing gel, impression material, shipping material, and super detailed instructions for every step of the process.

The first step will be to make your impression! You simply take the Base Paste and the Catalyst Past and mix the two together in your hands until you don’t see anymore of the blue base putty. You then place the mixture in the impression tray, and gently push it onto your teeth. It may be a bit uncomfortable, but you just have to hold it until the material starts to harden. Once this occurs, you can carefully pull it out and let it sit. The trays should sit overnight, and then you use the shipping material to send them back to Smile Brilliant!

After sending out your impressions, Smile Brilliant will then send back your custom fitted whitening trays(My favorite thing about them is that they are squishy and flexible, while retainers are stiff and uncomfortable). Once you have your custom trays, it’s time to start whitening! I whitened every other day for about an hour. The desensitizing gel is a lifesaver; my teeth have always been sensitive, and whitening always increases my tooth sensitivity. Trust me, try not to skimp on the desensitizing gel, it makes all the difference for your own comfort! I usually let the gel sit for 20-30 minutes.

I’m so pumped about my results… now the exciting part; the giveaway! Click on the link here to enter to win your own treatment from Smile Brilliant! You can also use code “shesglitterandgold15” for $15 off!

If you have any questions about whitening your teeth with Smile Brilliant, feel free to ask!

EOS Shave Cream // Benefit Lolli Balm // Tory Burch Miller Sandal // Not That Kind of Girl

Hello Dolls! I have been working on this post for a little over a month now, and am so excited to finally share it with you all! After brainstorming for a way to share some of my favorite products, both new and old, I came up with the idea of sharing my “Four Favs”. They will include something to want, something you need, something to wear, and something to read, which is based on a little gift giving motto!

Something to Want: EOS Shave Cream

I used to NEVER use shave cream – I survived on soap and water, but my skin was always super itchy and dry post-shower. After using this shave cream, my skin is extremely smooth, and I get a super close shave! It also smells good, which is always a plus!

Something to Need: Benefit Lolli Balm

If you’ve followed me for the past year, you know that I use Benefit’s Lolli Balm almost every day! It’s the perfect light pink, while also feeling really hydrating on my lips. I actually have the sample size, which can be purchased on eBay.

Something to Wear: Tory Burch Miller Sandal

Oh Miller Sandals, how I love you. Although they are expensive, they are well worth the price! I wear mine almost every day, plus the patent leather ones are water resistant, which is perfect for the beach and pool.

Something to Read: Not That Kind of Girl

I’ve never seen Girls, so I didn’t know who Lena Dunham was until I got to the end of the book (oops). But I will say that she is an amazing writer! Her stories are funny, thoughtful, and above all HONEST. She has the kind of humor that comes out of no where, which totally gets me! Life isn’t prim and proper, it’s imperfect yet beautiful and Lena really nails that through her stories.

Girl Talk: Bras 101

Bras 101 2016 (5 of 12)

Alright ladies, who’s pumped for this blog post?! I know it’s a pretty personal subject, but it’s one that I have really wanted to touch on.

When I started to follow bloggers on Instagram, I always marveled at uniquely cut tops, but was at a loss with exactly what miracle-mystery bra was working such magic. As someone who is “blessed in the chest”, I know all about bras that don’t work. However, I also have learned how to hunt down bras that DO work, and wanted to share the knowledge I do have! I do want to note that I am in no way an expert in bra fit, but want to steer you in the direction of figuring out what will work best for you!

Bras 101 2016 (2 of 12)

1. Everyday

For some reason, I always thought that having a bigger chest meant that a push up bra was essential to hold everything up. I hated always having cleavage, felt like my boobs were always falling out, and was just overall uncomfortable in them, but never tried on a demi bra. This brings me to tip 1 – try things on! Same thing with clothes, if you don’t try tons of different items on, you will never know what works and what doesn’t! After dealing with this discomfort for a good 8 years (why I didn’t address it sooner I still don’t know), I finally went to get resized at Victoria’s Secret. Usually, they seem to have no clue what they’re doing. I don’t want to bash their employees or anything, but half the time their “bra specialists” would size me at a D or DD, when I was literally spilling out of my bras.

I got lucky in the spring at my local VS, and had a super experienced woman size me. She made me feel so comfortable and laughed when I told her people kept measuring me at a D or DD, and was like “girl, you are for sure a DDD, be right back”. She returned with 3 different bra styles, none of which were push up, explaining that I don’t need the lift of padding, I just needed a bra that will support everything on it’s own. One of them fit like a glove, and I now have 4 bras in this same style, which are pictured above. They are this style, which is called the Dream Angels Demi Bra. After years of being uncomfortable, I now have everyday bras that I absolutely adore and actually FIT correctly!

Bras 101 2016 (8 of 12)

2. Strapless

Ugh, strapless bras are the struggle of the century. They all want to be belts by the end of the day, but again if you try enough on you will eventually find a style that does the job! The two above are an older style from Victoria’s Secret Pink. When I first tried them on I knew I had finally found the strapless bra for me. I am not going to lie, I do have to pull them up a bit throughout the day, and I can’t wear them with just anything because the cups are really noticeable under certain garments. However, they do a much better job than strapless bras I’ve had in the past!

Bras 101 2016 (10 of 12)

3. Sports Bras

This is the newer version of my high impact sports bra from Under Armour. I’ve had mine since freshman year of high school, making it almost 8 years old. It’s held up like a champ, and does such a good job of keeping things in place while still allowing you to breathe (there’s nothing worse than putting on a “high impact” sports bra that merely compresses your chest!)

Bras 101 2016 (11 of 12)

4. Lounge

Ah, Calvin Klein bralette, you are my favorite thing. You provide support while being oh so comfy, and I cannot say enough good things about you. Thanks for existing.

Bras 101 2016 (12 of 12)

5. Strapless Backless

Okay, so this IS the magic mystery bra. Again, I can’t wear it under everything because it doesn’t hold things in a super flattering way, however it’s the best backless strapless bra out there! I actually messaged a fellow blogger to ask what she used for a backless strapless bra, and this is what she recommended! I’ve worn it once so far, and it didn’t fail! The trick is to put it correctly – there are a few YouTube tutorials on different ways to position the cups.

So.. don’t settle when it comes to your bra. Try things on, find out what works and what doesn’t, and try to find an associate that seems really knowledgeable and makes you feel comfortable!

Thanks for reading loves! xo

Beach Waver // TRESemme Make Waves Shine Enhancing Cream

TRESemme Perfectly Undone Brushable Hairspray // Paddle Brush // White Top

Hi dolls! I have been dying to get this tutorial up for you all, and it’s finally here! I frequently get questioned about what I use to curl my hair, and now I am spilling my secret – the beachwaver. I have always had long hair, and was constantly trying to achieve back-swept, loose curls. After trying tons of curling irons, my mom heard about this one. She surprised me and bought it for my birthday, and since then I have had no need to try anything else!

Let me preface this by saying I am extremely incapable when it comes to my hair. I can’t work a normal curling iron. I can’t clip my hair by sections when I style it. Heck I don’t even know how to blow dry my hair properly (thankfully air drying is supposedly better). But the beachwaver makes me feel like a pro.

The only two products I use when I curl my hair are the TRESemme Make Waves Shine Enhancing Cream and TRESemme Perfectly Undone Hairspray. The cream slicks away frizz, while the hairspray is a dream. I have never met a hairspray that is so incognito – it controls your hair and holds the curl, yet there is no “crunch” and you can brush right through it! Literally hairspray sent from heaven.

See below for the full tutorial on how I use these products in conjunction with my beachwaver!
