Alright ladies, who’s pumped for this blog post?! I know it’s a pretty personal subject, but it’s one that I have really wanted to touch on.
When I started to follow bloggers on Instagram, I always marveled at uniquely cut tops, but was at a loss with exactly what miracle-mystery bra was working such magic. As someone who is “blessed in the chest”, I know all about bras that don’t work. However, I also have learned how to hunt down bras that DO work, and wanted to share the knowledge I do have! I do want to note that I am in no way an expert in bra fit, but want to steer you in the direction of figuring out what will work best for you!
For some reason, I always thought that having a bigger chest meant that a push up bra was essential to hold everything up. I hated always having cleavage, felt like my boobs were always falling out, and was just overall uncomfortable in them, but never tried on a demi bra. This brings me to tip 1 – try things on! Same thing with clothes, if you don’t try tons of different items on, you will never know what works and what doesn’t! After dealing with this discomfort for a good 8 years (why I didn’t address it sooner I still don’t know), I finally went to get resized at Victoria’s Secret. Usually, they seem to have no clue what they’re doing. I don’t want to bash their employees or anything, but half the time their “bra specialists” would size me at a D or DD, when I was literally spilling out of my bras.
I got lucky in the spring at my local VS, and had a super experienced woman size me. She made me feel so comfortable and laughed when I told her people kept measuring me at a D or DD, and was like “girl, you are for sure a DDD, be right back”. She returned with 3 different bra styles, none of which were push up, explaining that I don’t need the lift of padding, I just needed a bra that will support everything on it’s own. One of them fit like a glove, and I now have 4 bras in this same style, which are pictured above. They are this style, which is called the Dream Angels Demi Bra. After years of being uncomfortable, I now have everyday bras that I absolutely adore and actually FIT correctly!
Ugh, strapless bras are the struggle of the century. They all want to be belts by the end of the day, but again if you try enough on you will eventually find a style that does the job! The two above are an older style from Victoria’s Secret Pink. When I first tried them on I knew I had finally found the strapless bra for me. I am not going to lie, I do have to pull them up a bit throughout the day, and I can’t wear them with just anything because the cups are really noticeable under certain garments. However, they do a much better job than strapless bras I’ve had in the past!
3. Sports Bras
This is the newer version of my high impact sports bra from Under Armour. I’ve had mine since freshman year of high school, making it almost 8 years old. It’s held up like a champ, and does such a good job of keeping things in place while still allowing you to breathe (there’s nothing worse than putting on a “high impact” sports bra that merely compresses your chest!)
Ah, Calvin Klein bralette, you are my favorite thing. You provide support while being oh so comfy, and I cannot say enough good things about you. Thanks for existing.
5. Strapless Backless
Okay, so this IS the magic mystery bra. Again, I can’t wear it under everything because it doesn’t hold things in a super flattering way, however it’s the best backless strapless bra out there! I actually messaged a fellow blogger to ask what she used for a backless strapless bra, and this is what she recommended! I’ve worn it once so far, and it didn’t fail! The trick is to put it correctly – there are a few YouTube tutorials on different ways to position the cups.
So.. don’t settle when it comes to your bra. Try things on, find out what works and what doesn’t, and try to find an associate that seems really knowledgeable and makes you feel comfortable!
Thanks for reading loves! xo
